Summer’s Best, 2024

Summer this year was jam-packed with an amazing internship, the dry heat of Los Angeles, the towering Canadian Rockies, and the brisk-in-the-morning San Francisco bay area. Lots of new places, and lots of new songs to associate those places to. Here are some listens that stand out.

Sega Bodega, Dennis

Dirt, True (which was inspired by one of my favorite songs of all time, Kate Bush’s Cloudbusting), and Kepko are my highlights.

Charli xcx, Brat

Probably expected.

Latto, Sugar Honey Iced Tea

The whole album is quite cohesive. I’d start with Georgia Peach, Brokey, and H&M.

JADE, Angel of My Dreams

This was a great, great debut single. The music video is also great.

KAYTRANADA, TIMELESS

This is not my favorite album of his; that would be BUBBA. Video, Snap My Finger, and Hold On are where I’d start.

Gigi Masin, Wind

A pixelated sandstone brick Deep, muted greens A great expanse ahead Wind through the tunnel

Someone sings in the corner Deep, dark blues Someone’s quantized the waterfall If you squint, it’s a campfire

I came out and they’re playing jazz A lone saxophone Noticeably warmer tones Am I really that determined?

Jasper Bickers, cry over you - nick trap remix

The original is jungle hyperpop.

Peggy Gou, I Go

Camila Cabello & Lil Nas X, HE KNOWS

Nick Leon & Erika de Casier, Bikini

Anitta, Funk Generation
